3D VR Wowwee FlyTech Dragon Fly Unboxing Part 1

Many months ago I purchased from eBay a Large Wow Wee WowWee FlyTech Flying DragonFly. It had remained unboxed as Oliver had been scared by his older brother playing with my large Robots I use in my support work

But Oliver announced he is a Big Boy and not scared of Robots and things any more. So I told him of the hidden DragonFly?

But its from eBay, will it actually work? We'll Check That Out in Part 2

Infant Chatting With NAO Robot Friend In 3D PART 1

I just realised that the video I posted with Oliver with my NAO Robot NAO-SAN, was actually Part 2 not Part 1, which is why the references to guns and chairs may have made no sense.  Watch this video, then the link to video 2. #fixed1tNAOrobot

Fantastic Caricature Picture Of fixed1t

This is the fantastic caricature picture drawn by my previous Secretary Lesley Birch's husband John Birch for my 50th Birthday.  They were great times and it was a lovely gesture as it brought together my hobbies of sailing and singer song writing along with my wickedly sarcastic outlook on life.

Thanks John and Lesley.

fixed1t Virtual Reality 3D A New 3D VR Video From fixed1t Using My JVC Everio Dual Lens 3D GS0TD1-17

As a child I watched TOBOR THE GREAT and dreamed of having and wanted a robot friend. Now for Oliver my NAO Robot, NAO-SAN is a reality and such that friend. As he has none of the discriminatory biases and prejudices to NAO-SAN he is happy and relaxed to chat with him.  I'm working on speech to text for NAO-SAN so I can remotely carry out a conversation with which ever 'special needs' child I'm working with.

The Rise and Fall of a Companion Robot: Lessons Learned from Pleo

(May 27, 2009) John Sosoka

Fantastic lecture by the designer of the PLEO Robot Dinosaur, shortly before the company went in Chapter 7.

Its a brilliant lecture in AI, Robotics and Man Machine Interaction, luckily I picked up one of these robots on eBay so watching this has given me a great background on using it.

This video shows even getting the lighting right is fraught with hazards.

What Was Your First Home Computer? Mine Was A £500K Analogue Computer

Around 1978 a friend of mines father came round one day to say his department at University were about to dump a computer, and was I interested in it.  Imagining a suitcase sized device I said yes. He told me it had to be out of the department by the end of the week or it would be dumped.

As I didn't drive at the time I asked one of my Student Mental Nurse friends Walter if he could possibly give me a lift to the University and our friend Martin said he'd like to come along for the ride.

We arrived at the University and discovered that this wasn't a suitcase size computer, but was a huge table sized analogue computer from Electronic Associates, Inc a model TR-48

This is the Model of Analogue Computer now in the National Computer Museum in Bletchley UK
To get it in the car we had to remove the back seats and the front passenger seat.  Manhandle the beast into the back of the car, refit the passenger seat then all climb in.

When I got it home it created quite a stir.  As I was teaching myself electronics at the time, by building my own analogue synthesiser, I could plug this into the synth and do some amazing things. For years people came around the house after the pubs closed to look at the amazing machine working adding voltages together and making weird and amazing sounds through the synth.

I too had a huge oscilloscope on top of it so you could watch the complex waveforms it produced.

It was truly stunning to have half a million pounds worth of machine in a Whitfield Council house.

Then I got a ZX80 which was a huge disappointment. LOL It didn't have patchboards huge coloured panels with motors to load and unload it and Voltmeters and best of all precision 20 turn pots to twiddle.

I'm posting this on Facebook so Walter, Martin, Debbie and others can recognise the beast of 23 Elms Road :-)

Come to think of it, I must be the only person in the world to ever have such a complex analogue computer in their home to play with LOL a crazy achievement to be proud of :-)

Tiny Robot Playing With MAGNEXT iCOASTER

This video came about after 2.5 year old Oliver, his mum Katya and I had finished playing with his favourite toy, my MAGNEXT iCOASTER. He only gets to build and play with it supervised.  But he was concerned that Tiny Robot would sneak up and play with it when he wasn't here.  So his geeky Uncle fixed1t arranged for Tiny Robot to sneak in and Play With MAGNEXT iCOASTER.  Oliver will love the video. :-)

Sadly after making this video, the Tiny Robot, a Mini Robosapien was involved in a Dogging Incident with my dog Bree a 3 year old Lurcher ( saluki and greyhound cross)

Teen Looking For Work In Robotics

If I were young and unemployed but interested in computing I wouldn't waste my money on a cheap car, I'd buy a second hand high tech robot like NAO

and join the now FREE Alderbaran developers group and learn to program it in Choregraphe and PYTHON and then look for a robotics programming job.

There would be nothing better at interview than taking your robot along and demonstrating your programming talents, work ethic and determination.

One on sale on Ebay now, click here for my previous blog entry

Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets - Part 5 DESTEK 3D Unboxing

Hi,
In my last 3D VR blog entry

Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets - Part 4 Fixed Focus Plastic

I mentioned in Part 4 I had received a 3D VR Headset for Christmas and rather than it being a cheap cardboard headset it was a decent quality headset.  I was so impressed with it I've made a unboxing video, please take time to watch it and share it.

This DESTEK 3D Headset is a good low cost, low end headset, they sell in on Amazon

My only criticisms of the DESTEK 3D VR headset are:

It appears to have fresnel type lenses, which I suppose give it its 20/20 vision profile.
They are only for people who do not have to wear reading glasses
They are not for people who do not need reading contact lenses

Other than that they are a great introductory unit into 3D VR side-by-side 3D video viewing, and its flip opening and padded phone panel, means the phone doesn't start slipping around as you do.

In part 6 of this series, I will be reviewing the 3D VR headset I went out and purchased after deciding I found the total emersion of 3D watching relaxing and fun.

Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets - Part 4 Fixed Focus Plastic

My Christmas Present in 2015 from Andrew and Julie Bomyer bought me a was a Google 3D VR cardboard headset. Before I opened the box I thought it was literally one of the Google Cardboard Headsets.

But when I unwrapped the parcel I discovered it was:

DESTEK 3D VR Glasses

And from the pictures on the boxes, this was obviously not a cheap cardboard headset but a nice quality Plastic Headset that they sell on amazon:

In part 5 of my "Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets" on this blog, I will included a link to my unboxing Youtube video and discuss my findings on this attractive Google VR 3D Headset.

Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets - Part 2 How?

The big question is how much should you pay to watch 3D movies.

Watching 3D Movies at the Cinema

The way most people watch 3D Movies is at the Cinema using purchase Polarising Glasses.  The best 3D movie I have seen at the cinema is:

The system works pretty well as the left and right eye video images are projected at the same time, but the polarised lens only allow each eye to see the image with its polarisation.  This is a vast improvement on the old technology of projecting the movie in two different colours and audiences having to wear coloured glasses with matching colours for each eye.

The beauty of the polarised approach for mass audiences, is that if your eyes get tired and you take the glasses off you can still watch the movie, although it appears a little blurred.

Watching 3D Movies on the Television

In recent years new High Definition 3D Televisions have become available.  These also use special glasses which are called 'shutter glasses'.  With these glasses the left and right eye pieces are electronically flickered, so that the left eye sees the 'left image' and the right eye sees nothing and vis versa.  This is done at such a speed that the slow human eye and brain sees two different images and combines then in a single stereo picture in the brains visual cortex.  This is also a clever system but expensive and requiring specialist equipment.

Avatar with Limited Edition Lenticular Artwork (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD)

Watching 3D Movies on the Google Cardboard 3D Headset

Google mapped onto a very old technology with the release of the cardboard 3D headset.

As I mentioned in my previous entry, this is based on the simple principle of taking two photos on a camera at the same time using lenses which are set human eye distance apart, and they showing them with a viewer in the same manner.  The human brains visual cortex then stitches the two slightly different images together and produces the requires 3D perspective.

If you have 20/20 vision and want to dabble cheaply in 3D Video viewing then there are a huge number of these cardboard 3D Virtual Reality headsets available.

Virtual Reality, 3D Movies And Cheap 3D Headsets - Part 1

When I was first involved with Virtual Reality I was working for Wisdom Systems and Knowledge Based Engineering CAD supplier and was at Computervision who were then a major CAD/CAM provider.

It was at an open day and they had the top of the range Silicon Graphics setup with huge headset and gloves.

It looked a bit like this huge headset, big by surprisingly comfortable.
My task was to fly up to a flying VR helicopter, fly through the fuselage and replace the rotors whilst turning.  Reality would have meant instant death for all concerned but in VR it was easy.

As others roared with laughter, I bobbed or weaved and gesticulated with helmet and VR gloves and achieved the task.  I knew in an instant this was a real winner of a product and technology.  Then the 20 - 30 year rule cut in and it all went quiet, with just a few academic and military research areas continuing to carry the torch, but progress was slow and very very expensive.

Flip on 30 years and the hi res graphics in the mobile phone and the huge Ram and processing speed, mean that you can replicate the 3D VR space with nothing more than a cardboard box strapped to you head with a mobile phone in it.

The concept of side by side 3D isn't new, in fact its has been around for donkeys years. Most remember the beautiful 3D picture viewers which began appearing to take photography and the imagination of watchers, to a new level.  The images were stunning, I had a huge collection as a teenager and swapped them for an old acoustic guitar.

Being a geek I regularly get given unusual presents, and this year I was given a pair of the Plastic so called Google 'cardboard' 3D glasses.  I tried them on and in the next entry I will review them and explain how they are used.

This playlist contains my fixed1t AIBO videos, I am working with others to keep these fantastic Sony AIBO Robot Dog Pets working, and as they have autonomous personalities I say keeping them alive, in the silicon not human sense. AIBO Repair 3 : GOLD ERS-210 Part 2 - No More Jitters fixed1t fix

Hi I got and the did the fix, it was at little more straight forward this time as I had a better understanding of the AIBO ERS-210 leg anatomy so I could do things with the constant fear of breaking some part that I would have to manufacture if I broke it.

AIBO Repair 3 : GOLD ERS-210 Part 2 - No More Jitters fixed1t fix
This is the 3rd AIBO I am repaired and as there are no AIBO repair people in the UK but with apprenticeship help from WOLFBOB in the USA, and things are going well.  I'm planning to do a head repair in the next week and then refurb some batteries.  #fixed1tAIBOrepair

AIBO Repair 3 : GOLD ERS-210 Part 1 - Jitters

This AIBO ERS-210 Robot Dog is the brother of the Blue AIBO ERS-210 I recently fixed.  Sadly it is in poor shape, in this video I switch him on to observe the faults and behaviours that will help me understand what is wrong with it.

These are not dumb 'Remote Controlled' robot toys, these are independent thinking machines which interact with their environment and react independently to it. They are also very cute and affectionate.

AIBO Repair 2 : Blue ERS-210 Part 1 - Jitters

Having fixed the Jitters in my own AIBO ERS-210 Legs, I feel confident to work on somebody else.  There are no AIBO repair people in the UK but with apprenticeship help from WOLFBOB in the USA, I'm doing it myself.  A UK wonder contacted Bob and he recommended me, especially as my own had some rough handling during shipping which warranted his head having major repairs.  Once I'm confident doing legs I'll move onto Heads and Batteries.  Watch part 2 to see how I get on.  #fixed1tAIBOrepairs

Sony AIBO Robot Dog Playing With Its Ball AI In Action

This video shows my AIBO Robot Dog Playing With Its Ball showing Artificial Intelligence  AI and advanced robotics in action.

My Lurcher Dog likes "Bo" and hasn't attempted to damage it, but he does try to run off with his pink ball as soon as he gets a chance if your not looking ;-)

This Robot dog isn't remote controlled and has its own unique personality and set of behaviours.  I can see how the Japanese and others who can't have a real dog have one of these cheeky mischievous dogs.  This AIBO has limb jitters on startup which I plan to fix.
